The Low

By Emma Spedding

Katie Holmes has an extensive wardrobe, but lately there is one specific item that many of her outfits revolve around – a minimalist handbag by Totême. The Scandinavian brand is all about a uniform of refined basics, and in November 2022 it launched the T-Lock bag, which has quickly become a familiar sight in fashion circles.

After carrying the black version of the top-handle bag throughout winter, Holmes has invested in the "milk" version, which comes in a soft ivory leather, for the summer months. In New York this week Holmes added it to a summery all-white look, wearing white linen trousers, a matching jumper and her tonal T-lock bag.

"T-Lock has a certain ease and energy about it," Totême founder Elin Kling has said. "It is precise but not so precious. That's what I love about it." It's in line with the overall aesthetic of the Scandi brand, which has won over legions of editors with its elevated essentials.

Holmes sticks to polished basics, with straight-leg jeans, a blazer and a T-lock handbag.

Minimalist handbags have been dominating the luxury landscape for some time, as part of the overall shift towards understated and seasonless investment pieces. Minimalist brands like The Row, DeMellier and Savette (founded by The Row alum Amy Zurek), lead the way when it comes to if-you-know-you-know accessories, with a focus on beautiful leathers, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it branding, and precisely crafted silhouettes.
